The author proposes to explore the discourses on French "film d'art" in the Italian film between 1908 and 1912. Not only did the reception of the first French "films d'art" in Italy influence the development of new publicity strategies for film industry products, it also contributed to the emergence of a critical discourse. The French "film d'art" moreover provided Italian cinema with a cultural model of production.

Abstract
