Data mining studies the problems related to data analysis and extraction of knowledge implicitly stored in massive data sets. This field emerged in the late 1980s as a multidisciplinary field with contributions from the areas of databases, artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, statistics, pattern recognition, knowledge acquisition, information retrieval, high-performance computing and data visualization. The book, written by some of the main exponents of the database and data mining research fields, discusses the principles and presents data mining from a database perspective. Nevertheless, it includes the necessary notions of statistics, pattern recognition and machine learning.

Abstract
Data mining studies the problems related to data analysis and extraction of knowledge implicitly stored in massive data sets. This field emerged in the late 1980s as a multidisciplinary field with contributions from the areas of databases, artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, statistics, pattern recognition, knowledge acquisition, information retrieval, high-performance computing and data visualization. The book, written by some of the main exponents of the database and data mining research fields, discusses the principles and presents data mining from a database perspective. Nevertheless, it includes the necessary notions of statistics, pattern recognition and machine learning.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
