The International Handbook, prefaced by the famous pedagogist Gaston Mialaret, discusses current problems and trends, recruitment conditions, pre-service teacher policy and governance, quality and professionalism issues in 90 countries. In this chapter we propose an institutional perspective on the new governance of teacher education in contemporary Romania. In addition, we undertake a critical analysis of the professionalism rhetoric as related to the teacher education field.
