Climate trends and climate change signals in historical series of North West Italy Daily values of maximum and minimum temperature and precipitation for 9 weather stations located in North West Italy were analyzed to assess trends and climate change over the 1937-2008 period. This study required homogeneous series. To resolve this issue, a historical research was carried out and then the HOM method was applied on daily series for which linear trends were calculated. After severe quality control procedures and the assessment of homogeneity, series were used to calculate climate indices. To better understand climate change, a spectral analysis was performed to identify cycles in the precipitation series.

Abstract

Climate trends and climate change signals in historical series of North West Italy Daily values of maximum and minimum temperature and precipitation for 9 weather stations located in North West Italy were analyzed to assess trends and climate change over the 1937-2008 period. This study required homogeneous series. To resolve this issue, a historical research was carried out and then the HOM method was applied on daily series for which linear trends were calculated. After severe quality control procedures and the assessment of homogeneity, series were used to calculate climate indices. To better understand climate change, a spectral analysis was performed to identify cycles in the precipitation series.
