Regions of provenance in Italy: proposal for a method of delimitation of seed zones for Italy according to D. Lgs. 286/03 (forest basic material legislation). The paper deals with aspects of an ecologically founded delimitation for the regions of provenance in Italy. Two levels of analysis are discussed, a more general one based on the relationship between climate and forest vegetation and the most detailed on the genetic variability of species of major importance for forestry.
