In this paper we examine the impact of foreign immigration in Centre- North Italy on internal migrations from South Italy. The main conclusions reached by a panel cointegration approach are that, conditional on unem- ployment and wage di¤erentials, the share of foreign workers in the destina- tion labour force tends to have a signi cant discouraging e¤ect on internal mobility.
