The essay aims to reconstruct how the electric power companies and the telecommunications companies, taken over by IRI ( Istituto per la ricostruzione industriale) as a result of the Great Crisis, contributed towards the development and modernization of the Italian utilities in the aftermath of the Second World War. This analysis is carried out by taking into account the wider general trend in Europe, in the interwar period, towards an increasing role of the State in controlling both the electrical industry and the telecommunications industry. Although these trends and paths were common, every country had to take into consideration its own businesses and experiences. This ended up by putting together a very variegated mosaic in Europe.

Abstract
The essay aims to reconstruct how the electric power companies and the telecommunications companies, taken over by IRI ( Istituto per la ricostruzione industriale) as a result of the Great Crisis, contributed towards the development and modernization of the Italian utilities in the aftermath of the Second World War. This analysis is carried out by taking into account the wider general trend in Europe, in the interwar period, towards an increasing role of the State in controlling both the electrical industry and the telecommunications industry. Although these trends and paths were common, every country had to take into consideration its own businesses and experiences. This ended up by putting together a very variegated mosaic in Europe.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
