The aim of this short report is to discuss the abnormality that is more frequently found in coagulation assays, i.e. prolonged aPTT. This is most frequently due to presence of low levels of lupus anticoagulants. This alteration is transient and does not lead to clinical complications. However, in some cases, it may be due to the reduction of coagulation factors, in particular factor VIII, and this may be the only sign of von Willebrand disease. The report should help paediatricians to interpret the main coagulation assays correctly.
