The edition of the correspondence carried out from 1879 to 1923 between the group of mathematicians around Segre and Peano in Torino with several colleagues at the University of Göttingen, and in particular with Felix Klein and David Hilbert, will make it possible to compare and contrast the internal dynamics and the different ways in which the schools’ leaders conceived, carried out and promoted research programs and new lines of inquiry. The letters shed light on the mechanisms of circulation of mathematical knowledge between Italy and Germany, as well as various aspects of the cultural and academic life and editorial policies of the two nations.

Abstract
The edition of the correspondence carried out from 1879 to 1923 between the group of mathematicians around Segre and Peano in Torino with several colleagues at the University of Göttingen, and in particular with Felix Klein and David Hilbert, will make it possible to compare and contrast the internal dynamics and the different ways in which the schools’ leaders conceived, carried out and promoted research programs and new lines of inquiry. The letters shed light on the mechanisms of circulation of mathematical knowledge between Italy and Germany, as well as various aspects of the cultural and academic life and editorial policies of the two nations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
