A geostatistical approach was used to map the heavy metal content of soils in an agricultural area surrounded by several industrial activities near Turin (Italy). The total content of Cd, Cr Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn in the surface and in the deeper layer and the Relative Topsoil Enhancement were considered. All metals, except Zn, show a good spatial dependence and the maps allow to identify the location of the maximum concentration in soils. The low Kriging error makes the estimates reliable.

Abstract

A geostatistical approach was used to map the heavy metal content of soils in an agricultural area surrounded by several industrial activities near Turin (Italy). The total content of Cd, Cr Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn in the surface and in the deeper layer and the Relative Topsoil Enhancement were considered. All metals, except Zn, show a good spatial dependence and the maps allow to identify the location of the maximum concentration in soils. The low Kriging error makes the estimates reliable.
