The data of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) have been considered to map the petroleum fall-out on soils from the AGIP Trecate-24 drilling plant (Trecate, NW Italy) that blew out crude oil during 36 hours in February 1994. From a geostatistical analysis a satisfactory variogram model was found. The TPH in the topsoils were spatially distributed in an isotropic way and from a Kriging estimate a map of about 100 Km2 was drawn. The fall-out resulted mainly centred around the source, but the agricultural area as far as 5 Km showed traces of the pollution.
First geostatistical estimate of the petroleum fallout on soils after the Trecate accident (NW Italy).

Abstract
The data of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) have been considered to map the petroleum fall-out on soils from the AGIP Trecate-24 drilling plant (Trecate, NW Italy) that blew out crude oil during 36 hours in February 1994. From a geostatistical analysis a satisfactory variogram model was found. The TPH in the topsoils were spatially distributed in an isotropic way and from a Kriging estimate a map of about 100 Km2 was drawn. The fall-out resulted mainly centred around the source, but the agricultural area as far as 5 Km showed traces of the pollution.File in questo prodotto:
