Primary prevention in newborn care wards. A research regarding the “6+1 programme” activities in the Piedmont region, Italy. In the years 2007-2009 a survey in the 33 Birth Units of Piemonte Region was carried out to draw up a summary of the activities performed regarding the 7 evidence-based actions in the field of primary prevention. The survey represents a further step in the regional process to implement the prevention in the maternal-infant area, in which the active commitment of the people responsible for the hospital services, local services and libraries is decisive. The research was carried out by a multidisciplinary team through structured interviews to the staff at the areas of birth. The results show there is still a lot of work to be done on many of the activities, confirming the difficulties to translate into concrete facts words apparently expected.
