The chapter aims at exploring the international legal framework for the settlement of the dispute related to the 1998-2000 Ethiopia-Eritrea war. It starts describing the efforts of the international community to solve the conflict. It then proposes an analysis of the agreements concerning the cessation of hostilities and the solution of the dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Furthermore the chapter offers a deep understanding of the legal status of the two commissions established in order to define the boundaries between the two States and to address the claims arising from the conflict. In conclusion, the Author compares the mechanism established in the aftermath of the Ethiopia-Eritrea war with other international bodies such as the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal and the United Nations Compensation Commission created after the gulf war.
