This article analyses the relationships between insecurity (conceived as perception of self weakness) and the representations of the politics hold by 3000 students of the University of Turin on the one hand, and the cognitive and affective bases of these representations on the other hand. Quantitative and qualitative analyses showed a largely negative representation of the political fields, affected by some specific social-psychological characteristics of the participants. These findings confirmed the presence of a strong connection between perceived individual weakness and the cognitive and affective contents of political representations.

Abstract

This article analyses the relationships between insecurity (conceived as perception of self weakness) and the representations of the politics hold by 3000 students of the University of Turin on the one hand, and the cognitive and affective bases of these representations on the other hand. Quantitative and qualitative analyses showed a largely negative representation of the political fields, affected by some specific social-psychological characteristics of the participants. These findings confirmed the presence of a strong connection between perceived individual weakness and the cognitive and affective contents of political representations.
