Previously PFGE-typed Listeria monocytogenes isolates (N=95) were tested by Repetitive element sequence-based PCRs. A combined rep-PCR typing approach showed 95% repeatability; 0.98 discriminatory power; 95.5% sensitivity; 75% specificity; 91.2% predictive positive value, and 85.7% predictive negative value. Hence, rep-PCR represent an efficient and rapid subtyping method for L. monocytogenes.

Abstract

Previously PFGE-typed Listeria monocytogenes isolates (N=95) were tested by Repetitive element sequence-based PCRs. A combined rep-PCR typing approach showed 95% repeatability; 0.98 discriminatory power; 95.5% sensitivity; 75% specificity; 91.2% predictive positive value, and 85.7% predictive negative value. Hence, rep-PCR represent an efficient and rapid subtyping method for L. monocytogenes.
