This procedure can be interpreted both as a routinary and experimental diagnostic method, better if associated to bronchoscopy. the latter one can not be performed in small dogs and cats. The most important indications for BAL and bronchoscopy are mycotic infections and metastatic and primary pulmonary neoplastic diseases (the latter ones in term of "early diagnosis"). Then, the samples obtained are submitted to coltural and cytologic examination.
