Abstract

Nodal stem cultyres were initiated from apical buds of adult plants of Artemisia mutellina Vill. A single plant was obtained when node s were cultivated on basal MS medium. Th eefficiency of such a propafgation method was rather low.Highe r multiplication rates could be obtaine dthrough nodal explant cultyres on MS medium supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurine. Subcultures of the induced shoot clusters took 30 daysafter acycle on MS basal medium, clusters could be transplanted oon peat pot for rooting. This second method is suitable for the rapid propagation of A. mutellina, allowing the potential production of more than 100.000 plants from a single two years old plantin a 250 days period. The fielsd performance of the micropropagated plants, compared to a seed-derived plant population was positively evaluated.
