Climatological study of snow in northern Piedmont (Italy) in the context of the Interreg project "Strategies of adaptation to climate change for the management of natural hazards (STRADA)": first results. In this study we will present the first results of an activity of the strategic project STRADA. This is the analysis of variations in snow depth and temperature in Ossola Valley (Northern Piedmont) and in particular for the Alpe Cavalli station (1500 m) that presents a long and complete series (1932 to 2009). This series was available until now, only on paper: we made the recovery and digitization of daily climatic data kept in the archives of the Po Hydrographic Basin in Milan. On this station we undertook historical research, quality control and data homogenization, which allowed a complete climate analysis, with the identification of trends and their statistical significance. After extending the study to many stations in the Piedmont, we will try to assess the possible correlation between changes in climate and snow conditions favourable for triggering avalanches.

Abstract
After extending the study to many stations in the Piedmont, we will try to assess the possible correlation between changes in climate and snow conditions favourable for triggering avalanches.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
