Hormonal contraception has been available for more than 50 years and great advances have been made that have resulted in reduced risk of adverse events and improved cycle control. Current options now include a wide spectrum of products that provide clinicians with the opportunity to choose the most appropriate method for a specific woman. In addition, a spectrum of choices exists that suits the needs and lifestyle of women by meeting personal preferences. Optimally matching a contraceptive to each woman’s needs and lifestyle may help to ensure that the hormonal contraceptive is used consistently and correctly. However, knowledge gaps and a lack of awareness about the full range of available contraceptive options still exists, and common myths and misconceptions held by women may influence their selection and consistent use of contraception. Women want to be informed and educated about the available hormonal contraception methods. Many of them will choose a different contraceptive when given adequate information about all of their options. Counseling and patient-centered dialogue can effectively increase the use of appropriate contraception improving adherence and acceptability.
Are we doing all we can to help each woman make the right contraceptive choice?

Abstract
Counseling and patient-centered dialogue can effectively increase the use of appropriate contraception improving adherence and acceptability.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
