BIQUEEN is an ongoing project on efficient exploitation of energy from renewable silviculture and wood enterprises biomasses. It is based on collaborations between Institutes and Research Centers: IVALSA / CNR, University of Trento, Kessler Foundation, “Distretto Tecnologico Trentino", University of Poznan. The project is divided into four parts: verification of the origin of biomass, control of solid pollutants, monitor of volatile emissions, transformation of biomass in energy. Work in progress and preliminary results are presented. All samples coming from different locations were clearly separated using FT-NIR spectroscopy. Presence, quantity and type of pollutants on contaminated biomass were investigated with FT- MIR-ATR. Gasification technology significantly limited emission of unburned compounds during combustion. Combustion process of 5 tree wood parts was evaluated. NOx emissions were almost stable. Comparisons with the emission values from different types of burners were done. VOCs from combustion and fermentation of biomass stocks were measured
