This research aimed at addressing aspects related to alterations occurred in the rainfall in the period from 1986 to 2011, in the Paraná River Hydrographical Basin, Brazil, identifying the trends of these alterations by means of 11 climate indices created by the ETCCDMI, calculated with RClimdex software and applied to 32 meteorological stations of the INMET. Trends in rainfall were also calculated using the linear regression method. An increase in the number of wet days was detected in much of the basin, caused mainly by extreme rainfall, and also that there were more occurrences of monthly rainfall recorded on consecutive days, especially 5 days, among other findings. The results obtained in this research can be widely used to improve the understanding of climate change in Brazil and the various problems associated with it.
