Can Invisibile Cities by Italo Calvino, a book published in 1972, represent an ideal model which reproduce our contemporary way of life in the city? A meditation about the three concepts of writing, city and game could maybe give an answer to the question. If the city of Calvino was an evanescent place, created with an within the frame of a chessboard as a writing constraint, nowadays we live in a smart city, which at the same time is physically accessible but which is also constantly re-invented with digital instruments. Apps, social networks and digital technologies give each user the possibility to customize his maps, path and city experiences through the aesthetics of the game. The result is an invisible city, sort of imaginary place built as a game which, if in Calvino was ruled by the writing, now is presided by the digital and its logic.
