Histiaia was an ancient polis in northern Euboea and a member of the Delian League. After revolting against Athens in 426 bce, Histiaia was depopulated and its territory occupied by Athenian colonists, who settled in Oreos, local deme of Histiaiotis. Because of these events, in reference to the autonomous city-state reestablished after 404 bce, sources use both names, Histiaia and Oreos. During the first part of the fourth century bce, Histiaia expanded, annexing by synoecism the former poleis of Dion, Athenae Diades, and Posideion, which eventually became Histiaian demes.

Abstract
Histiaia was an ancient polis in northern Euboea and a member of the Delian League. After revolting against Athens in 426 bce, Histiaia was depopulated and its territory occupied by Athenian colonists, who settled in Oreos, local deme of Histiaiotis. Because of these events, in reference to the autonomous city-state reestablished after 404 bce, sources use both names, Histiaia and Oreos. During the first part of the fourth century bce, Histiaia expanded, annexing by synoecism the former poleis of Dion, Athenae Diades, and Posideion, which eventually became Histiaian demes.File in questo prodotto:
