The growing impact of severe weather phenomena has imposed unprecedented challenges. In most cases they have attracted the media’s attention and have triggered a lively debate on the complex relationship of media coverage of climate change and its influence on public perception. Climate change, however, has also made its way into the cultural imagination and literary studies, so much that the genre of cli-fi (or climate change fiction) has gained considerable public and critical attention. In most cases, however, both the media and cli-fi novels treat climate change as a substantially scientific problem requiring technological and scientific solutions that eschew issues of gender and class inequalities. Through the lens of ecofeminism, the article provides an analysis of Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior (2012) and its contribution to the visualization of climate change and gender relations to it.

Abstract
The growing impact of severe weather phenomena has imposed unprecedented challenges. In most cases they have attracted the media’s attention and have triggered a lively debate on the complex relationship of media coverage of climate change and its influence on public perception. Climate change, however, has also made its way into the cultural imagination and literary studies, so much that the genre of cli-fi (or climate change fiction) has gained considerable public and critical attention. In most cases, however, both the media and cli-fi novels treat climate change as a substantially scientific problem requiring technological and scientific solutions that eschew issues of gender and class inequalities. Through the lens of ecofeminism, the article provides an analysis of Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior (2012) and its contribution to the visualization of climate change and gender relations to it.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
