The artisanal squid fishery is of great economic, social, and cultural importance in Sicily. However, in recent years, it has dramatically declined, and local fishermen mostly perceive the interaction with dolphins as the primary cause for such a decline. In this study, we showed that striped dolphins are frequently present and feed around squid fishing boats. However, their activity does not significantly affect the number of squids caught by this particular kind of artisanal fishery.

Abstract
