Shopping centres are among the workplaces which best represent the spirit of contemporary capitalism and, as such, can also be seen as a breeding ground for social and institutional innovation. Starting from this premise, the article presents an Italian case study addressing the issues of union participation and labour regulation, with a specific reference to Sunday work and its social consequences. Furthermore, it suggests strategies for the renewal of un-ion representation.
