Abstract

Anthropometric features are inherited characters, that followa polygenic model and are strongly influenced by environmen-tal aspects as life style. For this reason Anthropometric charac-teristics are indeed very different by geographical area andchange in time. Studying and monitoring the becoming of thesevariations, we search to verify the adequacy of the data sets totheir use for ergonomic design. The focus on the human mor-phometric is current because of the interests of virtual design indigital simulations, playing attention to refer to an appropriateanthropometric database of “general population” rather than“working population”. Italy has a tradition of anthropometricstudies in the academic field of Ergonomics already appliedsince the ‘70ies and integrated into the interests of productioncompanies (Locati et al.,1979) and until today (Micheletti etal.,2018). Moreover starting from method by Grieco andMasali, 1972, we participated in the definition of the interna-tional anthropometric standards (today ISO 7250.1: 2017)and in the first national survey on general adults population(“L’Italia si Misura” project, 1990-91 by M.Masali_University ofTorinoand G.Pierlorenzi _Centro Sperimentale di DesignnowPoliArteof Ancona). More than 4.000 subjects were measured, males and females, representatives of different geographicalregions (35 measurement). This survey is today a source of ref-erence data. Italians anthropometric characteristics are report-ed, in particular relating to the estimates of increase in statureand weight conditions according to what emerges from thecomparison of national databases of different periods to focuson changes in progress in Italy
