This work examines the historical reasons that gradually led ethnomusico- logy to move away from the comparative method, only later reconsidering the poten- tial contribution coming from a carefully considered return to comparativism, with particular attention to the historical-geographical approach, to studying the disse- mination of oral-traditional repertories. Here, as case studies, a detailed look will be given to two epics from the Kurdish oral tradition, Mem û Zîn and Kelaê Dimdim. Through them, the concepts of oicotype and allomotivic analysis will be introduced in order to show that, above and beyond morphological analysis, formulaic analysis too can help identify the features of an oicotype.

Abstract
This work examines the historical reasons that gradually led ethnomusico- logy to move away from the comparative method, only later reconsidering the poten- tial contribution coming from a carefully considered return to comparativism, with particular attention to the historical-geographical approach, to studying the disse- mination of oral-traditional repertories. Here, as case studies, a detailed look will be given to two epics from the Kurdish oral tradition, Mem û Zîn and Kelaê Dimdim. Through them, the concepts of oicotype and allomotivic analysis will be introduced in order to show that, above and beyond morphological analysis, formulaic analysis too can help identify the features of an oicotype.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
