After a first part that briefly deals with other types of water and other works by Ariosto, the essay focuses mainly on the role of the sea in the Orlando furioso. The intent is not only to show how the sea, especially in its storm-like dimension, is a very rich presence in the poem, a repeated opportunity to exhibit descriptive skills and intertextual complexity, but above all to recognize it as a narrative element of fundamental importance in the construction of the structure and the meaning of the entire work.
