Two Centres for the transformation of agricultural products have been set up in Niger in the framework of a European Union development project. The two Centres are located in two different rural areas, the first one in the municipality of Makalondi, close to the border with Burkina Faso, and the second one in the central part of Niger, in the periphery of Agadez. The facilities are located in areas that are not reached by the national electric grid. Energy to the centres is provided by means of two photovoltaic systems, with a power of 6 kWp each. The systems supply AC current at the maximum power of 3500 VA. Each Centre has been equipped with 20 solar driers. After one and a half years of operation about 20 persons work at each Centre, and the production of packed dried food is raising.
