Since the 1400s, Chiusa di Pesio (CN, Italy) has been linked to the production of the homonymous Marrone as showed by many historical documents. Fruits present a brown pericarp with embossed dark streaks and they are used for fresh consumption and processing industry (marrons glacés). Different traits of this cultivar are considered positive for marketing: a medium-large size (65-80 fruits/kg), an ellipsoidal sub-rectangular shape, an easily removable episperm, and a sweet, aromatic and intense taste. Currently this cultivar is cultivated in Chile and Australia imported by European settler in last centuries.
