Abstract

This article studies Simone de Beauvoir’s hitherto unpublished novel, Les inséparables, written in 1954 and published now, 66 years later, by the author’s adopted daughter. It identifies a reading error in a passage of an autographic letter on which a crucial episode of the novel is based. This analysis reflects on the causes of the reading error and on the consequences that it determines in modifying the interpretation of the episode itself.
