An intrinsic approach to the ADM formalism for field theories is presented. The approach is based on the formal theory of calculus of variations in fibered manifolds and on the existence of global Poincaré-Cartan forms associated to an arbitrary Lagrangian density. When the Lagrangian density is generally covariant, the approach presented here coincides with the one we already presented in [10]. When working with adapted fibered coordinates, it coincides with the standard local ADM formulation.

Abstract
An intrinsic approach to the ADM formalism for field theories is presented. The approach is based on the formal theory of calculus of variations in fibered manifolds and on the existence of global Poincaré-Cartan forms associated to an arbitrary Lagrangian density. When the Lagrangian density is generally covariant, the approach presented here coincides with the one we already presented in [10]. When working with adapted fibered coordinates, it coincides with the standard local ADM formulation.File in questo prodotto:
