While extensive efforts have been devoted to the development of efficient ad-hoc algorithms for association rules mining, little or no interest has been paid to the integration of mining capabilities and the databases in which data of interest is stored. This paper describes AMORE, an integrated environment for the design of data mining requests and the extraction of association rules from a relational database. The adopted architecture is characterized by a tight-coupling of data mining with a classical SQL-server, that provides efficient access to operational data. The AMORE design environment provides to the end-users both a user-friendly environment and a powerful SQL-like language for the specification of data mining requests.
