In recent years, the study of the Spanish transition has been the focus of researchers’ interest in knowing how the process of political change affected the people. This has given rise to the study the construction of civil society and among the latter, those dealing with a movement in different Spanish cities in the 1970s: the neighborhood or citizen movement.Neighborhood associations were not unique to Spain as there were also active in other western countries. The Spain’s movement due to its duration and its strength has attracted the attention of specialists, both in Spain and abroad. This period has been intensively researched in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Valladolid or some of the Andalusian cities. But in this recently completed map, one region has yet to be included, Galicia. Had there been any neighborhood movement in Galicia? There had been and a very intense movement.

Abstract

In recent years, the study of the Spanish transition has been the focus of researchers’ interest in knowing how the process of political change affected the people. This has given rise to the study the construction of civil society and among the latter, those dealing with a movement in different Spanish cities in the 1970s: the neighborhood or citizen movement.Neighborhood associations were not unique to Spain as there were also active in other western countries. Italy, Portugal or France, with different political systems, experienced vigorous demands from their neighborhoods or citizens. The Spain’s movement due to its duration and its strength has attracted the attention of specialists, both in Spain and abroad. To the first studies were carried out when the associations were still in full swing, a large group of theses and monographs that have just been published in recent years have opened a new field of discovery; the seventies.
