Twenty years of translations of Romanian literature into Italian (2000-2019): data, analysis, reflections The aim of this paper is - firstly - to illustrate the evolution of literary trans lations from Romanian into Italian in the period 2000-2019 from a quantitative standpoint, and - secondarily - to outline the present state of said translations. The analysis is focused solely on the production of translated works (not on their reception) and on the three fundamental actors of this process: authors, editors and translators, as well as on the impact of the Romanian institutional policy in support of translations. The analysis deals on the following aspects: the number of books of literary works translated in the period under examination, the chronological trend of translations and their distribution by literary ‘macro-genres’ (fiction, poetry, theatre, aphorism); the number of translated authors by age and gender; the number of active publishers and the intensity and duration of their commitment to publishing literary works; the number of active translators and the intensity and durat ion of their commitment to literary translations; the “triangulations” between the aforementioned actors (authors, editors, translators); the extent and imp act of Romanian institutional support on the publication of literary trans lations from Romanian in Italy.
