The paper deals with the origin of one of the most famous Egyptian gods, Osiris. His origin is usually dated back to the Early Dynastic Time, as a form of the god Khenty-Imentyw, with an increasing presence of the god in religious formulas and historical records in the late Fifth Dynasty. Thanks to the reassessment of the available material, especially textual and archaeological records of the Memphite area, the paper demonstrates that Osiris is a purely Fifith Dynasty phenomenon, patroned by the king in the early Fifth Dynasty for targeted religious and ideological reasons.

Abstract

The paper deals with the origin of one of the most famous Egyptian gods, Osiris. His origin is usually dated back to the Early Dynastic Time, as a form of the god Khenty-Imentyw, with an increasing presence of the god in religious formulas and historical records in the late Fifth Dynasty. Thanks to the reassessment of the available material, especially textual and archaeological records of the Memphite area, the paper demonstrates that Osiris is a purely Fifith Dynasty phenomenon, patroned by the king in the early Fifth Dynasty for targeted religious and ideological reasons.
