In BM samples from 91 AML WT1 expression levels were significantly higher (p=0.0004) than in 51 BM normal controls. No correlation was found with morfological, immunophenotypic, genetic and clinical features. A decrease of WT1 levels was detected in 20/23 AML patients following chemotherapy, and an increase in the WT1 expression level occurred before the hematologic relapse in 6 of them. Quantitative detection of WT1 may be integrated in the diagnosis of AML and used in MRD monitoring in cases lacking additional molecular markers.

Abstract

In BM samples from 91 AML WT1 expression levels were significantly higher (p=0.0004) than in 51 BM normal controls. No correlation was found with morfological, immunophenotypic, genetic and clinical features. A decrease of WT1 levels was detected in 20/23 AML patients following chemotherapy, and an increase in the WT1 expression level occurred before the hematologic relapse in 6 of them. Quantitative detection of WT1 may be integrated in the diagnosis of AML and used in MRD monitoring in cases lacking additional molecular markers.
