Abstract

The first chapter of Plotinus' treatise “On Intellectual Beautiful” (Enn. V 8 [31]) provides an important starting point for analyzing the relations between Plotinian and Platonic concept of beauty. Against the traditional concept of mimesis, Plotinus raises some objections that seem to contradict the theories explained by Plato's in Resp. X. After a re-reading of important passages of Plato's dialogues (from the “Republic” to the “Sophist”), the essay comes back to the "Enneads" and tries to understand the reasons of Plotinian 'turn.'
