This contribution presents a preliminary analysis about the practice of reuse of building materials at Locri Epizefiri. Through the analysis of some private architecture contexts, it is possible to observe how the presence of tile fragments in the wall structures can be related to reconstruction activities of the building themselves. In particular, the conspicuous use of tiles marks a significant difference between the Hellenistic and earlier building phases. The abundance of tiles may be in fact the result of the demolition of preexisting buildings, which during the third century B.C. constituted a secure supply basin for the material. In this way, the practice of reuse not only responds to economic reasons, but also constitutes a solution to the problems of managing material waste produced by the demolition and renovation sites. The tiles, broken and crushed, are transformed into a useful material resource for the new construction sites of the Hellenistic polis, according to the model of “circular economy”.
