The Italian Linguistic Atlas is a project of the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Turin. It was started in 1924 under the direction of M.G. Bartoli with the involvement of Ugo Pellis and the support of the Friulian Philological Society. The first part of this article presents, after a brief historical excursus, the methodological principles (questionnaire, types of survey, choice of researchers and mapping techniques) and the most recent developments concerning the publication of data. The volume X, published in 2023 and entitled The society, is presented in the second part, through the illustration of some maps which briefly discuss the spatial distribution of dialectal words and their historical evolution.
