Dubbing animated films for children

This chapter describes the dubbing of animated films for children and highlights the main issues which translators and dialogue writers have to face when transposing such audiovisual productions into different languages. The chapter provides a brief description of the dubbing process. It then highlights the main linguistic and cultural features of animated films deserving special attention in translation: verbal and visual humour, cultural references, linguistic variation and stereotypes, register variation, informal register/colloquial language and youth language, taboo language and euphemisms, and songs.
