The long-range Lagrangian particle dispersion model MILORD has been revisited and updated. A summary of the model approach and a brief review of its development are provided. Examples are presented of the latest sensitivity analyses, investigating the dependency of the simulations on the resolution of the input fields, and of MILORD applications in backward mode, to trace the pathways of typical gases released in the atmosphere, like CO2, and atypical pollutants, like microplastics.

Abstract

The long-range Lagrangian particle dispersion model MILORD has been revisited and updated. A summary of the model approach and a brief review of its development are provided. Examples are presented of the latest sensitivity analyses, investigating the dependency of the simulations on the resolution of the input fields, and of MILORD applications in backward mode, to trace the pathways of typical gases released in the atmosphere, like CO2, and atypical pollutants, like microplastics.
