The essay examines Vera Bogdanova’s Sezon otravlennykh plodov [Season of Poisoned Fruit, 2022] as a significant example of contemporary post-Soviet fiction, focusing on the relationship between historical memory, generational trauma, and their modes of transmission. Drawing on the concept of metahistory, the analysis shows how recent history is not addressed explicitly but operates through every-day experience, family relations, and gendered models of behaviour. Particular attention is paid to the novel’s fragmented narrative structure, its recurring sym-bolic elements (the dacha, childhood, poison), and the normalization of violence. The essay argues that trauma is conveyed less through narrated events than through internalized practices, silences, and social expectations. Bogdanova’s novel is thus read as a critical space in which the persistence of the post-Soviet past becomes visible within individual biographies, without being resolved into a unified or reconciliatory historical narrative.

Abstract
Bogdanova’s novel is thus read as a critical space in which the persistence of the post-Soviet past becomes visible within individual biographies, without being resolved into a unified or reconciliatory historical narrative.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
