The meat sector plays a key role in the European Union and remains a staple in foodservice provided meals. This study analyzes certifcation systems adopted by ten leading meat companies in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain, identifying the mainly adopted standards, assessing national diverences and examining how certifcation practices contribute to consumer’s trust. Results show a strong focus on quality, safety, and traceability certifcations, while environmental, animal welfare, and ethical schemes remain less common. Findings highlight theoretical and practical implications, emphasizing the need for harmonized schemes and targeted Small and Medium-sized Enterprises support to foster transparency, consumer trust, and sustainability.
