This speech examines the use of video in the theatre of the Italian company Fanny&Alexander, focusing on its role in shaping a contemporary fairy-tale imagery. Drawing on three case studies ("Il mago di Oz", 2007–2019; "L’amica geniale", 2018–2022; "Trilogia della città di K.", 2023), the analysis explores the different dramaturgical functions of the audiovisual device. In these performances, video may act as character, didactic tool, mirror, or extra-diegetic narrator, generating estrangement, multiplying perspectives, and opening alternative imaginary worlds. The speech argues that video becomes a “magical” medium through which literary sources are transformed and the spectator’s gaze is decentered.
