This paper investigates the linguistic and rhetorical strategies through which early Christian authors attempted to verbalize the mystery of Christ’s resurrection. Starting from the apparent apophatic tendency of the canonical Gospels, which never describe the resurrection in its actual unfolding, the study analyzes Greek sources ranging from apocryphal texts to patristic and Byzantine homiletic literature. Particular attention is devoted to the interplay between apophatic and cataphatic theology, as well as to the use of metaphor, prosopopoeia, accumulation, and rhetorical amplification in the effort to “say” the risen God. The article ultimately highlights how the resurrection became not an ineffable event condemned to silence, but a privileged field for theological language and rhetorical experimentation in early Christianity.

Abstract
The article ultimately highlights how the resurrection became not an ineffable event condemned to silence, but a privileged field for theological language and rhetorical experimentation in early Christianity.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
