Groundwater resources of Piedmont region have been studied in relation to their use. In the mountain areas, the low solubility of rocks together with the scarcity of pollutant sources make the quality of groundwater excellent as bottled water. Some groundwater, involved in geothermal processes, is utilized for therapeutic purposes. In the hilly area, highly mineralized waters, significant as geosites, occur. The aquifer system of the Piedmont plain represents the most important hydrogeological reservoir in the Piedmont region: the groundwater of the deep confined aquifer is suitable for human uses, while shallow groundwater is designed for all the other purposes.
