Levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in cerebrospinal fiuid and serurn of 16 goats in advanced stage of scrapie, 11 goats in the initial stage and 8 control animals have been evaluated. As already revealed in Creutzfeldt-Jacobs Disease (CJD) in man, a statistically significant increase (P0.05) of NSE levels in the initial stage of the disease has been observed. NSE may be considered an useful biochemical marker of neuronal damage of the central nervous system (CNS), as well as a pre-clinical indication for the early diagnosis of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies

Abstract
Levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in cerebrospinal fiuid and serurn of 16 goats in advanced stage of scrapie, 11 goats in the initial stage and 8 control animals have been evaluated. As already revealed in Creutzfeldt-Jacobs Disease (CJD) in man, a statistically significant increase (P0.05) of NSE levels in the initial stage of the disease has been observed. NSE may be considered an useful biochemical marker of neuronal damage of the central nervous system (CNS), as well as a pre-clinical indication for the early diagnosis of transmissible spongiform encephalopathiesFile in questo prodotto:
