Speaking about landscape evolution as effect of the abandonment of agricultural practices in our Country, this paper will describe method and first results of a research project coordinate by Department of Agronomy, Forest and Land management of University of Turin, titled ‘Studio del paesaggio agrario in realtà collinari astigiane del Basso Monferrato per l’individuazione di corrette strategie di intervento, per la salvaguardia e la valorizzazione del patrimonio bioculturale esistente’, financed by Fondazione CRT (Progetto Alfieri). The project develops through a multidisciplinary approach and the aim is to study the landscape dinamics of a particular area located in Piedmont called Basso Monferrato Astigiano. It intends to analyse with particular attention all that concern the correct development of the area, both agricultural, environmental and turist aspects. In fact this region has, historically, an agricultural vocation and in the last few years many farms has been closed with bad consequences on people and landscape. The project, during two years, will try to explain what is happening in landscape (main problems and future perspectives) and to find concrete elements for its sustainable governance, preservation and revaluation.
